Theories

Desensitisation
this theory suggests that the more violence or moral disrupt we see the less shocked we are by it but i feel that the article 'Care Home Closed' in my local newspaper can show that society may not be desensitised to the mistreatment of elderly people as the article expresses how a family is distraught by the news about the care home and this could evoke similar feelings within the audience this would prove that society may not be desensitised to everything such as the mistreatment of the elderly, young children and animals.

Feminist theory
My article about 'best GCSE grades in 10 years' can show that women within the education system are becoming more and more successful this can be seen where I have used a young girl talking about her very successful GCSE grades instead of a boy.

David Gauntlett - Web 2.0 Media
the web 2.0 media theory suggests that there is no boundary between the creator of a media product and the audience as they can now comment and portray their views on certain things on media sites like social networks or in my case my local newspaper website where i have given the audience the opportunity to comment on an article this can make the article more of a debate than a fact and information giving site.

Website final idea

I have chosen this as my final idea as it combines all the best features from my initial ideas and I think it is an idea that looks most like the local newspapers websites that I have analysed. This idea also helps keep continuity because it includes the logo and same articles and images that are used in the printed copy of this edition so that the audience see that the website, newspaper and poster have the same ideas running throughout.

Poster Final Idea

I have chosen this as my final idea as I feel it brings together the best techniques used by local newspapers for posters such as a colour border matching the newspapers colour scheme and it includes short statements on what the main article in the newspaper is about and it also includes the price and website so that the audience get all the information that is needed in order to buy the newspaper or look at the articles online.

Front cover Image Analysis

when looking at the front covers of the News shopper I noticed that they almost always use long shots as to capture the whole scene these images normally include people in them that are related to the article.

when looking at the Kent Messenger's front cover images I noticed that they almost always use mid shots to close ups these are mainly of people that are related to the article and using a mid shot or close up give the image a more personal feel and may help the audience relate to the article.

when looking at the mid Sussex times I noticed that they use a mix of shots for their images and these are normally related to what the article is trying to express for example if the article is about a place or building then the image is normally a long shot and if the article is about a person or family its normally a mid shot to close up.

Representation in my local newspaper

All articles written in my local newspaper will be reflecting groups in a positive way and will show equality.

Ethnicity -  within my local newspaper i will present people from ethnic minorities in a non bias way but as positively as possible as to not cause offence. I think representing them in this way will also help others negative views towards ethnic minority groups change as their opinion will be challenged.

Age -  within age I will focus more on teenagers and over 60's, I will try to represent teenagers in a positive way as many newspapers both local and national focus on the negative aspects of teenagers, I will focus on the good things that teenagers do such as charity and volunteering work and GCSE and A level grades. When representing the over 60's i will also try to do in a positive way as sometimes they are presented in a negative way, and try to show that the local area still respect older people and are very keen to look after them.
