Industry Research - News Shopper

The News shopper was first launched on January 21st 1965 in Orpington  and was decided to be revolutionary as it would be free, and would start with 29,000 copies. The founders were Richard Addison, Gerald McKnight, David English and South African millionaire lawyers Rayne Kruger and Anthony Aaronson.
The founders then decided to open more editions.

Rupert Murdoch arrived from Australia in August 1969 to buy the paper and two similar publications in Blackpool and Cardiff.
Ownership by News International meant the weekly News Shopper losses, once the source of bankruptcy fears, were forgotten.

Currently there are eight print editions of the news shopper this i believe is a big reason as to why it is so popular because each edition is unique to its locality  meaning that each edition is up to date and informative of the news more local to you, this also means that he news shopper has a much wider audience than it did back in 1965.
Another reason as to why it is successful is because it is backed and sponsored by businesses in its locality meaning there is a big  community behind each of its editions.
the news shopper is also successful because of its award - winning website running since the late 1990's, it provides the very latest news seven days a week in between its weekly issues.

The news shopper is published by Newsquest, news quest say that they are  'a leader in providing local and regional news, information and more through  a network of known and trusted print, online and mobile media brands that reach half of all UK mainland households.
it publishes more than 200 newspapers, magazines and trade publications, including 17 paid-for dailies. It has a weekly readership of 13 million and a weekly circulation of 10 million.
Newsquest also has major internet coverage with more than 160 local newspaper and portal websites that are independently audited they serve more than 75 million pages to over nine million unique users every month.

Newsquests objective is 'to have market - leading brands disseminating local information in a number of different and simultaneous ways, which reflect the views and aspirations of the communities they serve'.
